The amount of hostility I encountered on the part of some would-be purveyors of tablets was incredible. One was bordering on nasty implying I could not afford to pay the life-size tablets they offered at $8,500.00 for the pair. I tried explaining to the man, I had no need for life-sized tablets. Don't know if he was having a bad day or if had just partaken too much of the grape on the particular day. He did not even get the measurements I had sent him right!
I have given up trying to find someone on the internet, or anywhere else for that matter, and have instead purchased an engraving tip to fit my Dremel 400 Series XPR. Incidentally, this Dremel Company (Robert Bosch Tool Corporation) is an extremely reputable and generous company with which to do business! I bought a Dremel Tool (a lesser model) years ago and only used it twice and very lightly at that. On the third time I went to use it, the motor burned out. I contacted this company and explained what my problem was, and also that I could not find anyone who would only sell me the tool itself, that I would have to buy the entire tool kit in which it came. I did not need that, as my tool kit was practically pristine. Imagine my surprise when the company sent me a label with which to send my defective tool back and promised me a free upgrade to their 400 Series XPR! And this they did. I was/am so grateful I am taking this opportunity to pass this on to the public at large.
Anyway, back to the gist of this blog. If you are looking for a full size replica of the 10 Commandments, don't pay some GONIFF $8,500. for the two tablets. Simply provide a local monument maker - as in the kind of monument makers that would make gravestones for your loved one's, friend's, etc. grave (G-d forbid!) with the dimensions of the stones you would like. Provide him/her with the type of 10 Commandments you would like, whether in English, Hebrew, ancient Hebrew script (Proto-Hebraic), etc. and wait for his/her quote. It will be NOWHERE near $8,500. I am providing here a copy of a 'gag' set of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs which I provided to one such local monument maker in 2005. These were engraved on a piece of Flagstone, measuring 30 inches long by 6 inches wide by 1 1/4 inches thick. The result was an impressive, authentic-looking piece of Egyptian hieroglyphs. I simply blew-up a copy of the hieroglyphs desired from "An Egyptian Hieroglyphic Dictionary" by E. A. Wallis Budge, of the Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities Museum in England. You can do the same thing, but with the images of the type of writing you want on your own custom replica of the 10 Commandments. My cost for the 'stela' containing the Egyptian hieroglyphs? $150.00 in 2005. Even with inflation, I doubt the cost has risen by over 10 times! Here is the finished product. Below it, I am submitting samples of 10 Commandments Tablets you may wish to consider. Maybe you'll be able to find more on the web! Good hunting and shop around! Don't get taken!!!
